Scholarship Description

These scholarships are available to first-year students who have non-U.S. resident status. As of the moment, the number of scholarships available is limited. However, meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee you will be offered one. All scholarship amounts are shown in U.S. dollars.

Supplemental documentation required

The grant is given to selected international undergraduate students committed to spreading the #YouAreWelcomeHere message and bridging cultural divides. The grant covers $25,000 in tuition per year and is renewable for eight semesters. The #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship application is required. This scholarship cannot be combined with the International Tuition Grant.

Automatic consideration

International Tuition Grant

This award is only available to limited numbers of first-year students from other countries who have non-U.S. resident status. It is determined by academic performance, extracurricular activities, and geographic diversity. For eight semesters, grant values can range from $15,000 to $25,000 annually.

Students who apply by December 1 to MSU will receive priority consideration. As funds become available, students who apply after December 1 could also be eligible. This scholarship is not open to U.S. citizens, permanent resident students, and transfer students.

Honours Distinction Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a non-resident of the honours college invitee, officially recognised as a member of the united states.

Honors College Excellence Scholarship

These scholarships are meant for those who are non-Michigan residents. Each year, the Excellence Scholarship is worth $13,000 and can be used for eight semesters.

Professorial Assistantship

Offered to a select number of international and homeschooled Honors College invitees based on a holistic review of their individual academic records. This offer is also available to domestic students. However, they must have a GPA that ranks them among the top 5% of applicants from their schools for MSU.

Professorial assistants are paid approximately $3,500 per year for 8-10 hours of research or scholarly activity. This stipend is renewable for four semesters. These scholarships are meant for those who are non-Michigan residents. Visit the Honours College Website for more details on this.

Global Ambassador Grant

This award is only available to academically gifted applicants. It costs $7,000 per semester. Red Cedar Scholarship

The reward for dependents and grandchildren of MSU alumni. $1,250 per year, renewable for eight terms

Presidential Study Abroad Scholarship

Award for study abroad programs that are co-sponsored by MSU or MSU-sponsored. The amount of the award is $3,000 to $5,000, depending on the length of each program. The award must be used within the first eight semesters of undergraduate enrollment at MSU or before completing the undergraduate degree.
